  District 49 happenings

Say good-bye to superintendent Mark Maksimowicz, who is leaving June 4 for greener(?) pastures in Arizona. Ron Wynn from School District 11 has been selected as the only finalist for the interim superintendent position. Wynn, according to a report by the Gazette, has been in D 11 formore than 20 years.
The D 409 citizens committee recommended a $7.7 million override of the current mill levy. Projects include the conversion of Falcon High School to a middle school, the conversion of Falcon Middle School to an alternative high school, the completion of Evans Elementary with additional classrooms and a media center, the completion of Meridian Ranch Elementary and Springs Ranch Elementary, two new elementary schools near the Bridlespur and Claremont areas and the completion of a middle shcool at Indigo Ranch. Nothing is set in stone for the November ballot. (Next month, we'll address in detail the issues surrounding the mill levy and the school district, from modular buildings to who pays.)
Two Falcon high school students were suspended for compiling an alleged hit list of eight students. They will face misdemeanor charges.
