 They had been informally cheering for the Falcon Youth Football Club for the past three years, but last January, the Falcon Youth Cheer Club became an official cheer organization.
Founder and club president Charity Weese said the cheer club is comprised mainly of the siblings of the football players. "My son played football for three years, and I stepped up and asked a couple of the siblings if they wanted to be cheerleaders," Weese said. "They said 'yes' and it kind of took off from there."
"There's so much out there for boys but we wanted something strictly for girls," said Christi Thompson, vice president of the cheer club.
The cheer club members attend Falcon School District 49 elementary schools (second through sixth grade). The club is recreational, and they try to cheer at as many games as possible. Since they are not a competitive team, there are no tryouts, which "gives every little girl a chance to become a cheerleader," Weese said. The club begins practicing at the end of July for the fall football season.
