Falcon residents might notice something different about Kate's Cafe. It's now Nana's Kitchen. Owner Rick Coffelt opened Nana's Kitchen at 7117 McLaughlin Road in July. He said he wanted to bring Falcon "very simple, very flavorful country cooking" to honor his mother and grandmother, who passed along their passion for food.
Coffelt was raised in Oklahoma and spent quite a bit of time on his grandparents' farm in a small rural community similar to Falcon. When he and his wife (a native of Ellicott, Colo.) moved to the Falcon area, Coffelt said he saw an opportunity to branch out from the software consulting company they own, and achieve the "fulfillment of a dream" with Nana's Kitchen.
"We opened the cafe because I have a passion for it," Coffelt said. "It's extremely important to me that people have a great experience. (Nana's Kitchen) offers simple country cooking the way we think it should be done."
Currently, the cafe is open for breakfast and lunch seven days a week, offering a traditional Sunday dinner complete with all the fixings. Coffelt said they plan to extend some hours in the near future to include dinner service.
Nana's Kitchen is open Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

As of April, Dr. Ron Ronco, DMD, a Colorado native from Canon City, is the new owner of Meridian Dental. He bought the practice from Dr. Jay Brandon Johnson. Ronco started with Meridian Dental in December 2009, and said he didn't have to think twice about the transition. "When the opportunity came up to own a practice in an area that I love, I jumped at it," he said.
Ronco, who also holds a degree in chemical engineering from Brigham Young University, began his career building rockets for the aerospace industry. With a family to feed, Ronco was concerned about the fluidity of the industry and potential layoffs, so he turned to his interests in a second career: dentist or U.S. Air Force pilot. The USAF said he was too old to join, so Ronco packed up the family and moved to Kentucky where he earned a doctoral degree in dental medicine at the University of Louisville. After completing his degree, he returned to Colorado and started practicing in Colorado Springs. Eventually, he ended up in Falcon.
As part of Meridian Dental, Ronco decided he liked the atmosphere in Falcon. "I've been here long enough to realize that I like the attitude of the people out here," he said. "They just want quality dental work, and that's it."
Meridian Dental is also home to Dr. Christina Kukura and Dr. Kristen Nichols.

Meet 11-year-old Tommy Sinclair, The New Falcon Herald's official paper boy.
With deliveries to 30 different businesses in Calhan, Peyton, Falcon, Black Forest and Whole Foods on Powers Boulevard, Tommy has his work cut out for him. Luckily, he has the help of his dad, Bill Sinclair, also a NFH team member. "My dad got the job doing the paper route, and said, 'Why don't you come along and help' and since then I've been doing it," Tommy said.
In his off-work hours, Tommy is a sixth grader at the Rocky Mountain Classical Academy. He is a member of the football team at the academy, and is active in his church and youth group. Tommy has a couple of other diverse interests that include riding horses at the Iron Horse Christian Youth Ranch and playing the piano.
Although he stays busy with school and extracurricular activities, Tommy said he really enjoys his new paper route.
