  Slinging ink in Falcon

As Falcon’s population has grown, so has the potential for new businesses. The Fair Winds Tattoo Collective, opening Sept. 1, is ready to make its mark on the area.
A tattoo collective, much like an art collective, involves an array of artists working together independently under one roof. They help the business owner while maintaining their independence and having more freedom than they might have as an employee of a tattoo parlor.
Each artist is working toward a collective goal together, and that goal is to create quality custom tattoos.
Kara Kozlowski, a veteran and the owner of Fair Winds, said she wants her business to focus more on quality over quantity.
She said she named the collective after the U.S. Navy saying, “Fair winds and following seas,” a gesture of good luck to sailors leaving on their journeys.
The tattoo artists work with customers individually to personalize their tattoos. Unlike many tattoo parlors, there is no book from which to choose a design, which adds a more personal touch, Kozlowski said.
There are currently four artists at the Collective and each one has a special creative focus, from black and gray realism to pop culture to cubistic and script tattoos. They even have the only artist in the area qualified to do sound wave tattoos, which are designed to look like a sound wave but the sound wave tattoo can actually play music or a sound clip when held up to a smart phone camera, using a certain application.
Fair Winds is open seven days a week, and interested parties can book an appointment online and view the artists and their specialty tattoos at https://www.fairwindstattoo.com. Fair Winds is located at 11910 Tourmaline Dr., Suite 118, at the Shops at Meridian Ranch in Falcon; phone number is 719-888-5580.
